Let’s Talk About Kickstarter

As a small brand, we’ve grown a lot over these past few years. It all started with the simple idea to make minimalistic designed EDC gear that could last generations.

(The first prototype of the Microblade - Feb 2017)

At the time we were deeply inspired by the concept of the Microblade yet we had no idea how people would react. So, we turned to the “crowd” to see if this idea was something other people believed in. Our first product, the original Microblade, was launched on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. It did so well that the project was completely funded in under 48 hours. A dream come true for team WESN.

Since then we’ve completely funded our two other knives. The Henry ($200K raised), and The Allman ($172K raised). That's over half a million dollars combined.

So what is Kickstarter, you might ask?

Let’s be clear, Kickstarter is not a store where you go to buy products on demand.

It is a platform where businesses ( and individuals) get to work directly with people who believe in a product and want to be part of bringing that new product to life. This is a win-win for both the business and the crowd. The crowd helps with funding, and in return, they usually get their hands on this product long before anyone else, plus they get this product for a lower price. (In our case, significantly lower). Pretty cool.

From our past experience with Kickstarter, we’ve engaged with our community in a much more intimate way. We’ve been able to listen to backers' (you guys) opinions concerning product design in real-time. This has been invaluable to us, it also allows WESN supporters the chance to hear what other supporters are saying.

Bringing a new product to market is a journey. When joining the crowd to fund an idea, you’re actually embarking on this journey with us.
